2" X 30 1/2" CERAMIC BELT (Sorby)

Ceramic belts will give you about 25% more wear on steel than zirconia-alumina belts. Most of our belts have a cryolite grinding aid, which reduces friction and heat. Our belts have heavy cloth backing and taped butt joints with no bump.

They provide the fastest cut and longest life on steel. Ceramic sanding belts and discs are usually orange (PS992) or purple (Bora 7 premium). They are a blend of 20-50% microcrystaline ceramic and "fused" aluminum oxide. The grain size is under 1 micron, resulting in higher density and toughness. They self sharpen by fracturing only on hard materials like steel, and require more pressure than other softer abrasives.

Ruby R. ★★★★★

I was skeptical about the 25% longer wear claim, but after grinding down a dozen chisels, this belt is still cutting cleanly with no glazing. The cryolite coating definitely keeps the heat down compared to the zirconia belts I used before.

John M. ★★★★★

Been running these ceramic belts on stainless steel and they last noticeably longer than the zirconia ones I used before—the cryolite coating helps keep the heat down and the belt cutting smoothly.

Thomas ★★★★★

I've been using this ceramic belt for a few weeks now shaping steel, and the 25% wear improvement over my old zirconia belts is real — it's still cutting cleanly where others would have dulled. The cryolite coating keeps the heat down noticeably, which saves me from burning the metal edges.
