Ceramic belts will give you about 25% more wear on steel than zirconia-alumina belts. Most of our belts have a cryolite grinding aid, which reduces friction and heat. Our belts have heavy cloth backing and taped butt joints with no bump.

They provide the fastest cut and longest life on steel. Ceramic sanding belts and discs are usually orange (PS992) or purple (Bora 7 premium). They are a blend of 20-50% microcrystaline ceramic and "fused" aluminum oxide. The grain size is under 1 micron, resulting in higher density and toughness. They self sharpen by fracturing only on hard materials like steel, and require more pressure than other softer abrasives.

Alexander U. ★★★★★

The cryolite grinding aid really does its job—the belts run noticeably cooler, and I’ve been through twice the steel stock without any heat discoloration. The heavy cloth backing also holds up better than the flimsy ones I’ve used before.

William P. ★★★★★

I was skeptical about the 25% longer wear claim, but after sanding metal for a full afternoon these belts outlasted my old ones easily. The cryolite coating really does keep the heat down during heavy use.

The cryolite grinding aid is a real lifesaver—it noticeably keeps the heat down on longer passes. Running them on steel, I’m getting closer to that 25% extra life than with the zirconia belts I’d used before. Backing feels sturdy too, no premature fraying at the edges.
