I’ve been using these interface pads with my 5-inch backup pad, and they really do let the vacuum work just as well while adding a nice layer of protection. The hook-and-loop grip is solid, so the mesh discs stay put without shifting.

The 1/8" thickness is just right—it cushions the backup pad without messing with the vacuum's dust collection. Worked perfectly with my mesh discs on a furniture refinishing project.

Just used these on a heavy sanding job and the hook-and-loop held up perfectly without wearing out the backing pad. The vacuum still pulls through just fine, which was my main concern.
