The 3/8 inch thickness gives just enough give for smooth sanding without bogging down the sander. It's also held up to several heavy sessions on my orbital with no visible wear yet.

The 8 holes really help keep dust from building up under the pad, and the 3/8-inch medium foam gives just the right flex for smoothing out curves without being too squishy. I've used it for a few sanding sessions now, and it's holding its shape nicely.

My old backing pad was way too rigid for finishing work, so this 3/8-inch thick interface pad with its 8 holes is exactly the cushioning I needed. The hook-and-loop side grips the disc securely and the medium density gives just enough give without feeling mushy.
