Learn how to attach, use, and remove Abranet Hook & Loop triangles on your sander. Step-by-step instructions for dust-free sanding with hook and loop backing.
Quick answer
Attach Abranet hook & loop triangles to your sander's pad by aligning the triangle points, press firmly, and sand with light pressure to let the mesh work. Remove by peeling from one corner when finished.
Why choose Abranet triangles for detail sanding
Abranet hook & loop triangles use an open mesh construction that pulls dust through the abrasive, keeping the surface clear and reducing clogging. This makes them ideal for sanding into corners, along edges, and on detailed profiles where dust buildup can slow you down.
The hook & loop backing lets you swap grits quickly without clips or adhesive. Because the triangles are precision-cut, they match the shape of most detail sanders, so you get full contact without overhang.
Choosing the right grit and pack size
Abranet triangles are available in 220 and 400 grits, sold in packs of 25 or 50. Use 220 grit for fast material removal on bare wood or paint, and 400 grit for fine finishing between coats or on sealed surfaces.
If you sand frequently, a pack of 50 saves per-piece cost and ensures you always have a fresh triangle ready. For occasional touch-ups, a pack of 25 is sufficient.
How to use Abranet hook & loop triangles on your sander
- 1. Prepare the sander pad: Ensure your sander's pad is clean and free of old adhesive or debris. Wipe it with a dry cloth if needed. A dirty pad can reduce hook & loop grip. A clean pad gives the best hold and prevents the triangle from shifting during use.
- 2. Align and attach the triangle: Hold the Abranet triangle by its edges and align the three points with the corners of your sander's pad. Press the center firmly, then smooth outward to each point. The hook & loop backing locks it in place. If the triangle overhangs the pad, trim it with scissors. Overhang can tear or leave scratches.
- 3. Sand with light pressure: Turn on the sander and let the mesh do the work. Apply only the weight of the sander — pressing harder clogs the mesh and slows cutting. Move in overlapping passes. Heavy pressure reduces dust extraction and shortens abrasive life. Let the sander's motion carry the triangle.
- 4. Remove and replace: When the grit dulls or the mesh loads up, peel the triangle off starting from one corner. Pull slowly to avoid tearing the mesh. Dispose of the used triangle and attach a fresh one. If the triangle resists removal, flex the pad slightly to break the hook & loop bond. Never pry with a metal tool — it damages the pad.
